You look gentle as my heart burns
The glow yellow on your face
And white hot on your fingers
As I study your expression
To see what else may linger
I didn’t paint you for acceptance
Although it seems much cleaner
Than the other four grief stages

This painting
Is about grief. Not only the final stage but all of them. It’s about accepting just how intertwined grief and love really are, and finding the beauty in their collision. The stages of grief are not linear and this painting explores them coexisting. The anger with the acceptance. The loss with the love. The galaxy represent the way grief has of turning loss into something almost cosmic. Transforming the loss from what it really is into all that thing represented. The healing is in the title - Acceptance. And all the other stages.

Timeline
I began working on Acceptance (And All the Other Stages) on April 25, 2026. It was the kind of painting where I would leave it for a few days (sometimes facing the wall to give me some time to digest) and then when I began working it it would just turn into all-nighters. I completed the painting July 12, 2026
Painting playlist
To get in my feels, I would listen to a lot of Ojala, Algo Casual, and Te Llevo Tatua by Young Miko. Complicates Things, Better Than That, and I Can Survive by Ian McConnel were on repeat too.
Easter egg
The fire in her eyes and around the heart was painted and repainted and repainted until it felt like it was a real fire— constantly growing and dancing.
